The feel of a mattress is a very personal thing. We offer a firmness rating as a guide to help you decide.
Memory Foam Warehouse offer memory foam mattresses as well as pocket sprung with memory foam, and reflex foam. With a memory foam mattress your body will be cradled by the foam and supported by the base. With a pocket sprung mattress, each spring supports each area of your body individually, which is also great if there is a significant weight difference between partners sharing a bed, and has a little more spring to it than a full foam mattress. A reflex foam mattress will feel quite firm, and although still offering comfort and support, it won't offer the same high level of comfort and pressure relief that memory foam can offer. Reflex foam mattresses are a great option for those on a budget, or for use in guest bedrooms. An orthopaedic mattress features a very firm surface, and will offer a range of health benefits including increased blood circulation. It is ideally suited to people with aches, pains and swollen joints as well as those with more severe conditions such as arthritis.
A deeper mattress such as 30cm will offer a higher level of support, which is especially important for those of a heavier build or with musculoskeletal problems. Young children and light to average size adults on the other hand will be perfectly happy with a shallower depth mattress, such as 15cm – 20cm deep, dependent on personal choice.
The depth of the memory foam layer has an impact on the overall feel of the mattress, as well as the support and pressure relief that it offers. In general, the shallower the depth of the memory foam layer, the firmer the mattress will feel. A deep memory foam layer will provide the ultimate soft and luxurious feel and will allow the body to sink deeper in to the mattress without feeling the support base below. Again this is down to personal choice, although we do recommend that if you suffer with back pain or any musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis then you should be looking for a memory foam layer of 7cm or above to offer the best level of support and comfort.
You can narrow down your choice by range. If you would like more in-depth information on our mattress ranges we would suggest visiting the individual range pages which you can access from the homepage or from the main menu.

With its proud UK heritage and world class design, the Komfi range is a handmade masterpiece in the art of sleep. If you are looking for a premium mattress that really stands out from the run of the mill offerings, you have found your next mattress.
Fully designed in the UK, the Komfi mattress uses some of the finest materials to give your new mattress the very best in comfort and finish.
Our Komfi memory foam mattresses carry some of our longest available warranties, up to 10 years, demonstrating just how entirely confident we are in the craftsmanship and quality of materials that go in to our flagship brand.
With so many up and coming brands dominating the mattress market, it can be hard to differentiate which factors constitute quality. When it comes to memory foam mattresses, the first name that probably springs to your mind is tempur (we know they're often on our mind!) Tempur are held in high esteem by many and have earned their reputation as a leading brand in the field. As they are such a trusted brand who produce consistently high quality mattresses, the products are often accompanied by an expensive price tag.
A quality memory foam mattress will do all that it promises, it will offer support and extraordinary comfort and, for people suffering with back pain, arthritis, and other joint problems, the relief a memory foam mattress offers is priceless. We would never advise going ‘cheap’ on a mattress as we consider all our mattresses as investment products which lead to a better quality of sleep.
However, as sleep experts, we do spend plenty of time talking to our customers about what they need and what we have discovered from so many of you is that memory foam is often associated with high expense in comparison to other types of mattress. Memory foam is in general more expensive than other types of mattress, yet looking beyond the bigger brands, you can still benefit from a quality memory foam mattress without the enormous price tag.
We have looked at our Double Outlast Ultra Memory Foam Mattress in comparison with the Tempur Original 21 Mattress and made some interesting observations. Let's take in to account some important features to give a fair comparison:Memory foam depth
Our own Double Outlast Ultra Memory Foam Mattress has an impressive 7cm dual layer of HD memory foam which comprises of a 5cm comfort layer and a 7cm support layer to provide a dual benefit of superior comfort and support for sleepers. In total, the depth of our mattress is 23cm whilst the Tempur Original 21 Mattress comes in just short at 20cm.
Although the base foam provides the overall structure and delivers the expected level of comfort which can be found in every memory foam mattress, any additional layers offer added thickness and softness so the sleeper can benefit from a super comfortable sleep.
For more information about the importance of memory foam mattress depth and factoring this into your decision to buy a memory foam mattress, read our educational guide which takes you through the levels of depth in a memory foam mattress and the benefits for the intended sleeper.Memory foam density
The density of tempur foam is 85kg/m3, which is a high density foam offering plenty of support. The density of our Double Outlast Ultra Memory Foam Mattress is 60kg/m3, although slightly less than the foam found in tempur mattresses, 60kg/m3 is still a very high density memory foam that will offer a superb level of support, moulding to the contours of your body.
The denser the mattress, the higher content of memory foam which has been used. This provides an overall firmer mattress which is ideal for sleepers who want a higher level of support for their neck and back. A high density mattress ensures your spine is correctly aligned as you sleep, reducing the need to toss and turn by up to 80%.
For a more detailed exploration of the density of a memory foam mattress, read our informative blog post which covers the definition of density and why it should be considered when purchasing a new mattress.Mattress cover
Our Double Outlast Ultra Memory Foam Mattress features a removable and washable outlast cover. Outlast is a NASA approved, space certified technology which has produced a material to effectively regulate the temperature of your body, meaning you won't be too hot or too cold during the night. The tempur mattress features a removable and washable polyester cover.
Outlast boasts an innovative and unique design which provides an added value to the sleeper, storing your body heat when it is too warm and releasing back to you when the temperature drops. For a more detailed insight into outlast and how it works, read our product focus on the outlast mattress and find out why it’s often thought of as the “mattress for all seasons”.And the difference in price?
A double Tempur Original 21 Double Mattress has a list price of £1949 and currently on special offer at £1,079.
Our Outlast Ultra Memory Foam Mattresses have a list price from £699.99 and today will cost you from £269.99!
The difference in price between these two mattresses is staggering and although tempur is an undisputed market leader, there are lesser known brands such as outlast which still possess the same benefits of its competitor.
All our memory foam mattresses are delivery rolled (unless specified otherwise). A rolled mattress still delivers superior comfort and support night after night, whilst having the added benefit of being easy to transport into your bedroom.Rolling a memory foam mattress
For transportation purposes, many memory foam mattresses are rolled and compressed using a vacuum to suck out the air. Rather than using a vacuum, we use an innovative compressor machine which compresses the mattress as it is being rolled.
Your memory foam mattress is compressed to approximately 25% of its original size using our manufacturing machinery. Our manufacturing process is carefully tested to ensure that absolutely no damage is caused during compression. The Benefits of a rolled mattress
Great for home delivery. Rolling a mattress ensures a smoother transition from our warehouse into your home. If you live close by to one of our retail outlets, you can collect your rolled mattress, pack it into your car and drive away with it the very same day. This is a very popular choice for many customers as it cuts the delivery time dramatically. As you are able to collect the mattress yourself, there is no need to wait in for your mattress to be delivered which means you can enjoy a great night’s sleep sooner.
A rolled mattress also makes it easier for our deliverymen. Compressing the mattress means there is less chance of it being damaged in transit, because not only will it be easier for our deliverymen to handle the mattress, there is less surface area exposed too.
Improves the performance of your memory foam mattress. The performance of a foam sleeping surface actually improves after the first few months due to foam cell structure becoming less resilient and slightly softer. The short time that the mattress is compressed will actually speed up this process, improving the feel of the foam, and allowing the most comfortable sleeping surface from the first night.
We would not however, recommend keeping your mattress rolled for longer than a two month period, as we cannot guarantee the integrity of a product which has been rolled for longer than this. Please also be reminded that we urge you to check over your product as soon as you receive it so that you have the opportunity to contact us should there be any discrepancies.
If you order a memory foam mattress with us and would prefer that it is not rolled for delivery, simply ask our sleep experts to note your preference when ordering. We are more than happy to accommodate your request and deliver your mattress flat.
The price of a mattress can range from couple of hundred pounds to a few thousand; but does a higher price tag always result in a better quality product? When purchasing a new mattress, it is important to consider a range of factors in order to fulfil specific sleeping and budget requirements.Factors affecting the price of mattresses
If you have begun to look for your new mattress, then you will have noticed the large price differences which separate them. There are several different factors which can cause this:
If you’re buying from a reputable mattress company, then the price gap should be due to the complexity and quality of the mattress design. A more advanced design and better mattress quality can result in an increased cost to manufacture the product due to the use of additional/more expensive materials, a longer manufacturing process and higher labour costs.
However, this is not the only reason for increased mattress prices. A company sourcing and manufacturing mattresses abroad and then selling them in the U.K can cost more due to higher transportation costs. The mattresses at Memory Foam Warehouse are designed and made in Britain, meaning you won’t have to pay extra if you choose to purchase your mattress from us.
When you purchase a mattress, you are also buying a brand name. Well-known brands can charge higher prices for a very similar product, as they have earned their customers’ respect and loyalty and they have the reviews to show it. Although it is important to buy from a reputable source, it is important to take this into account and research the different products available, and this can prevent you from paying more than you should. What to consider when buying a mattress
It is essential that you have decided on a price limit before you visit a mattress supplier. Many mattress salesmen are commission-based, and it can be easy to be convinced or pressured into paying more money than you bargained for. Having a budget will prevent you from making any irrational purchases which can hurt your bank balance. Informing the sales team of your price range will help them to show you the appropriate items or deals, and it should also prevent them from trying to sell you something which you can’t afford.
Although it is important to budget, you should also remember that a mattress is an investment. Think of your mattress in the same way as you think of your car or your sofa. Spending a little extra can result in a better quality product, which benefits you long after you have recovered from the initial cost. A low budget could buy you a mattress that is a suitable for a rarely-used guest room, however it should be avoided if you are looking for a mattress which will be used for any length of time. We strongly advise that you steer clear of any bargain bins, as this can lead to an uncomfortable night’s sleep and further shopping.
The quality of a mattress can even impact your health and lifestyle, as a poor quality mattress can cause unnecessary aches and pains and damage the quality of your sleep. How much should I spend on a mattress?
Your health and comfort should always be made a priority, which is why we always recommend that you spend as much as you can allocate. You should consider the quality of the materials, as well as the design and finish so ensure that you choose a reputable company for your purchase.
Depth relates to the thickness of the memory foam. Choosing the correct thickness for you will be dependent on your sleeping position, your mattress condition and your weight. It is advised that the more weight placed on the mattress then the thicker the memory foam should be.Is Memory Foam Depth Important
Memory foam mattresses can be anywhere from 6 to 13 inches (15 to 33cm) deep. You may think that the thicker the memory foam the more comfort - this is right and wrong. The majority of memory foam mattresses on the market are not made entirely of memory foam - if the whole mattress was memory foam then it would just be too soft and you would end up sinking too deeply into the product.
All our memory foam mattresses are made on-site at our factory in Yorkshire. This means we can offer our customers genuine factory direct savings of up to 70% off compared to other high street retailers.
We are an established, British manufacturer with a carefully crafted range of quality mattresses. Don’t be fooled by attractive looking, cheap imports that you may see online – they will not be of the same quality and you will be left disappointed. Support British manufacturing and feel reassured you have bought a quality product which is fully compliant with furniture and fire regulations.

Widely known for their superior levels of comfort and their ability to mould to the shape of our bodies, memory foam mattresses have become a staple in our homes. However, due to the hype surrounding their superior comfort levels, the significant health benefits of memory foam mattresses are often overlooked.
A memory foam mattress can benefit every part of your body. It can ease muscle pain whilst simultaneously promoting air circulation, allowing your body to breathe. Sleeping in a cool, healthy and clean environment are just a couple of health benefits you can expect from your memory foam mattress.Memory foam health advantages: Helping your body from head to toe
A Memory Foam Mattress works to improve and benefit every part of your body, easing muscle pain and providing a fantastic sleeping surface. The open cell construction of the visco-elastic material allows air to circulate, giving you a cooler and more restful night’s sleep whilst allowing your body to breathe.1 Head and neck
Memory Foam Pillows cradle and support your head and neck, helping you to get a restful and comfortable night’s sleep. Thanks to the full support that memory foam products offer for your head, there won’t be any strain, stiffness or tension when you sleep. The construction of the mattress can also ease and sometimes eradicate sleeping disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnoea as it helps to relax the body and keep airways open.2 Shoulders
Memory foam can also offer exceptional support to side sleepers and reduce sleep-related aches and pains. If you often wake up with pain or stiffness in your shoulders, then it is likely that you haven’t been able to sink them properly into the mattress to remove the pressure placed on them by your body. Memory Foam will allow your shoulders or elbows to sink in and support the rest of your weight. It is also a recommended material for those who suffer from frozen shoulder syndrome (Adhesive Capsulitis) as the visco-elastic material will ease pressure points and reduce unnecessary strain.3 Back and spine
When sleeping on a traditional mattress, your spine tends to bend to accommodate its shape. This isn’t the case with memory foam, which has been expertly designed to mould to the shape of your body and provide you with full lumbar support. Memory foam mattresses can also help with spinal alignment, reducing the risk of back aches and other sleep-related pain from becoming an everyday issue.5 Hips and knees
Memory foam mattresses cradle your hips, allowing for a comfortable night’s sleep free from aches and pains. Memory foam contours to your entire body, spreading your weight evenly to remove the strain on your body’s pressure points. These mattresses are ideal for individuals with arthritis or other types of muscle and joint pain.6 Ankles and feet
The foam’s visco-elastic structure reduces your tossing and turning throughout the night by acting as a shock absorber. Memory foam’s excellent ability to absorb shock means that it is the perfect choice for couples, as it can stop you from feeling mattress movement from your partner if they get up in the night.
If you happen to spill a liquid on your Memory Foam Mattress, we would recommend that you strip and wash the cover before gently cleaning the foam. It is important that you only use a small amount of lukewarm soapy water. Too much liquid can work its way into the different layers and shorten the mattress’ lifespan. It will also make it the perfect place for mould and bacteria to breed. You should also avoid rigorous cleaning or using traditional stain removers, as this is likely to damage the surface of the mattress.Regular cleaning
If you just want to give your mattress a general clean, then a vacuum cleaner is a quick and easy method of removing unwanted dust and crumbs from its surface. You can then wipe it down lightly with a mild detergent, before allowing it to air dry.Use a mattress cover
We can’t stress enough how important it is to invest in a cover or protector. A mattress cover acts as a barrier, absorbing sweat and other liquids before they can reach the mattress and thereby increasing its lifespan. This makes it an easy and efficient method of stain prevention, and it can also be removed and washed easily. The vast majority of mattress guarantees become invalid when a mattress is soiled or damaged, and so a cover or protector is a great way to give you peace of mind. A lot of our memory foam mattresses already come with their own zipped, removable mattress cover, meaning you can continue to sleep in a fresh and healthy environment for years to come.Rotate your mattress
Rotating your mattress will help to prevent uneven wear and compression, as well as limit the likelihood of any sagging. Do not flip your memory foam mattress due to their one sided design and the way that the layers have been formed.Still unsure?
