When choosing a new mattress, it’s easy to focus on the things you can immediately feel – how soft or firm it is, how supportive it feels, or how comfortable you are when you lie down. But what goes inside a mattress matters too.
As mattress manufacturing continues to evolve, there is an increasing focus on finding smarter ways to use materials, reduce waste and create products that are built to last. One material helping us to do this is Ecofoam.
What is Ecofoam?
Ecofoam is a British re-engineered foam material created by giving existing foam a new purpose.
During the manufacturing process, foam offcuts can be produced when materials are cut and shaped to create mattresses and other foam products. Rather than allowing these offcuts to go to waste, they can be collected and re-engineered to create a new, resilient foam material.
The result is Ecofoam: a durable material that can be used within products such as mattress bases, helping to reduce the need for newly manufactured foam while making better use of materials that already exist.

Giving foam a second life
One of the key ideas behind Ecofoam is circularity.
Traditional manufacturing can follow a more linear journey: a material is produced, used and eventually disposed of. A circular approach looks for opportunities to keep those materials in use for longer.
It’s a relatively simple idea, but one that can make a meaningful difference to how efficiently materials are used.
Is re-engineered foam lower quality?
The word ‘recycled’ can sometimes give the impression that a material is a lower-quality alternative, but that isn’t the case with Ecofoam.
Foam offcuts aren’t simply gathered together and placed inside a mattress. They go through a re-engineering process to create a consistent material designed to withstand the demands of everyday use.
Ecofoam is resilient and durable, making it particularly well suited to structural areas of a mattress where reliable, long-lasting support is important.
Why do we use Ecofoam in mattresses?
Every layer of a mattress has a job to do.
Some materials are designed to provide cushioning and pressure relief. Others help with airflow, temperature regulation or support. Ecofoam can be used to create a strong, supportive foundation within a mattress.
Alongside its performance benefits, using re-engineered foam also provides another important advantage: it gives existing material another useful life.
By recovering foam offcuts and putting them back into the manufacturing process, we can reduce unnecessary waste while creating a material capable of delivering the durability and support required within a modern mattress.
