Types of Warranties
Mattress guarantees don’t just come as a one size fits all package. It’s important to understand the different types of mattress warranties to know what’s covered.
Here’s a brief overview of the different types of mattress warranties;
Manufacturer’s Warranty
This type of protection is provided by the mattress manufacturer and covers your purchase from manufacturing faults or poor workmanship. Basically, any issues with the product that aren’t caused by you or regular wear and tear.
Each mattress company will have different conditions, so make sure you check first.
Here at Memory Foam Warehouse, we offer a 12 month manufacturer’s mattress guarantee on all of our products as a minimum. If, in the unlikely event you experience a problem, we’ll happily repair or replace your mattress free of charge.
Limited Warranty
A limited warranty or guarantee applies to certain conditions, dependent on the specific service agreement.
We offer an extra limited guarantee on top of our standard 12 month guarantee on selected mattresses. The benefit of this guarantee means you can continue to claim after the first year.
First, we’ll arrange an inspection before calculating a small fee for its replacement.
We operate a sliding scale, where the older your mattress is, the more you’ll have to contribute towards its replacement. After two years, you will need to contribute 20% of the mattress’ value, while after 5 years it increases to 50%.
Extended Warranty
An extended warranty is provided on top of the standard warranty or guarantee. Sometimes it will cost extra, but will offer longer warranty periods.
Warranty Time Periods
Warranties usually last between1 to 20 years, depending on the expected lifespan, quality and price of the mattress.
For example, our affordable range of Essentials memory foam mattresses come with a 12 month guarantee, while some of our hand-crafted luxury mattresses come with a 15 year warranty.
What About A Sleep Trial?
Although not technically a warranty, a sleep trial is another way of protecting your investment. The manufacturer’s warranty won’t cover issues relating to comfort, and it can take a few weeks to get used to a new memory foam mattress.
With our 100 night sleep trial, if, after the trial period you decide the mattress isn’t for you, we’ll happily arrange an exchange.
What Does a Mattress Warranty Cover?
When you buy a new memory foam mattress, make sure you fully understand the terms of the warranty. Most mattresses are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty – which means that any manufacturing faults which come to light in the mattress are covered.
Accidental damage by the customer is not.
Here’s what a manufacturer’s warranty could cover;
- Premature or excessive sagging
- Sinking
- Broken or bent coils
- Irregular bunching or lumps
However, a manufacturer's guarantee does not usually cover;
- Minimal sagging
- Discolouration from washing
- Standard wear and tear
- Structural damage caused by the customer
- Reduced comfort and support
Common Voids of Warranty
A void is a fault or situation that nullifies your mattress warranty. Let’s look at some common voids;
Removing the Law Tag
You will find a small tag somewhere on your new mattress. Don’t remove this mattress law tag as it will void your warranty! This is because the label provides proof of purchase.
Using an Inappropriate Bed Base
Different mattresses require different bed bases for optimal support. For example, memory foam mattresses need bases which allow for proper ventilation, and broken slats can lead to uneven support and sagging. Old or broken bed bases are likely to invalidate your warranty.
Stains and Spills
Permanent stains will void your mattress warranty as they are unsanitary, preventing them from being stored safely in a warehouse. Some liquids can even damage memory foam, so it’s important to use a mattress protector.
Not Unpacking Your Mattress In Time
Often, memory foam mattresses are delivered compressed and rolled for ease and convenience. Different mattress retailers will have different stipulations regarding when to unpack your mattress.
For us, you will need to unpackage your mattress within 2 months of delivery.
Not Rotating Your Mattress As Needed
Not rotating your memory foam mattress regularly can affect your warranty. Rotation helps to prevent sagging and keep your mattress in good condition.
Why Does a Stain Void a Mattress Warranty?
When our mattress inspectors' feedback to us, the most common causes of mattress damage are stains and spills.
Liquid spillages on the mattress can cause dipping and disintegration. Unfortunately, this is not covered by the warranty, because it was caused by accidental damage by the consumer … not a manufacturers fault.
What is the Lifespan of a Memory Foam Mattress?
When thinking about mattress warranties, it’s important to consider the average lifespan of different mattresses.
A good quality memory foam mattress could last up to 15 years! However, other mattress types have shorter lifespans, from between 7-10 years.
The longer you expect your mattress to last, the longer the warranty you should expect.

How To Make a Warranty Claim
If you want to make a claim within the warranty period, we’ve made the process as simple as possible.

What Happens Next?
Once your claim has been processed, we’ll send out a qualified inspector from Home Serve, a leading furniture repair specialist. As a third party inspection team, they will inspect your mattress and apply relevant tests to determine if there is a fault.
All of our bed inspections are carried out by an independent inspector, so that everyone is satisfied with the verdict.
If the inspection agrees there is a fault, we can start to process a repair or exchange.
